Aquarium Finisterrae - by Seth Grotzke on Google
Description
Aquarium Finisterrae contains an exterior piscnarium with seals and a series of tanks containing marine life arranged in themed area such as Sala Maremágnum focused on the Atlantic Ocean or Sala Nautilus with 48 windows in a room decorated like Captain Nemo's study in the Nautilus providing views into a pool containing 700 fish from over 30 different species.
Access & Transport
The aquarium is situated on the same small peninsula as the Tower of Hercules at the northern end of A Coruña, 2km northwest of the historical centre. There is a parking on site and buses 3 / 3A stop there. A Coruña is 70km north of Santiago de Compostela (40mins by train), 280km west of Oviedo, 320km northwest of León, and 300km north of Porto.
Instructions & Recommendations
The aquarium is situated in between the Tower of Hercules and the Domus museum so this is a logistically optimal combination.
Environmental & Social
Sources water directly from the ocean and involved in some research and education programs but little by way of actual details.
Conclusion
Recommended for families looking to take a break from the Galician cultural activities or beaches. Otherwise, for out-of-region travellers it holds little interest, at least by international aquarium standards
Key positive
Original Nautilus section
Uses ocean water directly
Key negative
Small and no big fishes
Slightly expensive for adults
Suitability
Accessible for visitors with reduced mobility (lift)
