Description
The National Museum of Science and Technology (MUNCYT) has 2 branches: one in the Galician capital of La Coruña that we are reviewing here and the other in Alcobendas (15km north of Madrid). It exhibits a wide range of scientific instruments and items dating from the sixteenth century to the present. These span domains such as astronomy, mathematics, navigation, chemistry, computer science, and transport.
Access & Transport
The back of the museum can be seen from the roundabout at the junction of Av. San Roque de Afuera and Av. Gerardo Porto, a little after Praia de Riazor, 2km west of the city centre of A Coruña.
Instructions & Recommendations
Note that there is another science museum not far away called the House of Sciences so make sure you are heading to the correct address. From the museum, it is a short drive or a 20mins walk to Monte de San Pedro.
Environmental & Social
This looks like a purposely built modern building so some carbon footprint and resources intensity. Educational
Conclusion
The museum is among the best family-friendly activities in the city and good option for those with a keen interest in sciences although the very scientifically literate may not be awed given it is also meant to cater to children.
Key positive
A few impressive and original exhibits
Free admission
Key negative
Lacks some narrative flow
Suitability
Accessible and well suited for children
