Praza de María Pita (A Coruña) - by e wez on Google

Description
Praza de María Pita is the main square of the city of A Coruña, Galicia. It was a relatively late development, having been designed in the second part of the 19th century. The plaza is dominated by the Municipal Palace (the town hall) and framed by arcaded buildings. In the middle is the statue of María Pita, the famous local heroine who defended the city against the English armada led by Francis Drake in 1589.
Access & Transport
The plaza marks the centre of the city and is within walking distance of many attractions + several bus services stop in the next street over (south side) called Av. Montoto. A Coruña is 70km north of Santiago de Compostela (40mins by train), 280km west of Oviedo, 320km northwest of León, and 300km north of Porto.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest discovering the Plaza as part of an exploration of the historical part of town, taking on the Obelisk and perhaps the Fine Arts Museum if you are in a mood for a cultural activity.
Environmental & Social
Mostly concrete with few green spaces. Part of the city's architectural heritage.
Conclusion
More than the square, it is the town hall that truly deserves a detour for those in A Coruña. Make sure to walk through, even if you don't have a drink or pintxos there
