Jubail Mangrove Park

Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street, Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi

Description

The Jubail Mangrove Park is a mangrove sanctuary located on Al Jubail Island in Abu Dhabi. Visitors can enjoy a ~2km boardwalk to discover the marine and bird species of the local ecosystem and learn more about the mangrove role in supporting the emirate's biodiversity and protecting its coastline. The best time to visit is at high-tide and there is the option of booking a guided walk with a Ranger (different fee applies)

Access & Transport

The park is on the northern side of Al Jubail Island, between Al Saadiyat and Yas Island, and can easily be accessed by car using the E12 / Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed St. There is no public transport option

Instructions & Recommendations

All minors (<18yrs) must be accompanied by an adult at all times

Meta review

The mangrove park is not well known outside the Abu Dhabi and neighbouring Dubai Emirates so there aren't that many online reviews to go by, even from travel bloggers. Opinions are on average quite positive but also quite measured. It is rated as an enjoyable outdoor activity for those who like natural and quiet environments, and there are recurring comments to avoid going at low tide to maximize birds and fishes viewing opportunities; many visitors who went at low tide were rather underwhelmed.

Environmental & Social

Eco-friendly activity that preserves and educates visitors about the local ecosystems. Socially neutral

Conclusion

The Jubail Mangrove Park is an enjoyable option for those looking to discover another side of Abu Dhabi but it isn't a top-tier attraction by any stretch so we would recommend it for UAE residents or visitors with more than 3-4 days in the city. We would also expect such infrastructure to be made available to the public for free (which was the case until 2019 as per our understanding).

Key positive

One of the city's best preserved natural environments

Opportunity to learn more about the mangrove ecosystem

Key negative

Not much to see at low tide and hot during the day

Suitability

Suitable for all ages and the boardwalk are very even, making it accessible for visitors with reduced mobility.
