Instructions & Recommendations

This attraction is best combined with a visit of Al Ain Oasis.

Meta review

The fort is considered one of the main sights not just in Al Ain but in the UAE outside of Dubai and Abu Dhabi urban centres. Visitors seem to mostly have a good experience, highlighting the visually enjoyable and impressive architecture of the fort, and the fascinating collection of photographs of Wilfred Thesiger inside the complex. There are mixed views on whether the attraction is worth a special trip from either Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

Environmental & Social

Environmentally neutral. Helps preserve's the emirate's and country's architectural and cultural heritages.

Conclusion

The fort is a must see if you happen to be in the Al Ain area. It doesn't have much history but is really photogenic. Whether it is worth a special trip from Abu Dhabi or Dubai depends on how much time you have to spare, noting that the trip will likely entail renting a car or potentially hiring a driver. For UAE residents, it is a must see at some stage but best done combined with other Al Ain sights.
