Museo de la Cuchillería de Albacete - by Domingo Fraga Santin on Google
Description
The Museo de la Cuchillería de Albacete is a historical knife and cutlery museum housed in the Hortelano Palace in the centre of Albacete (Castile-La Mancha). The collection houses knives dating back from the Iron Age and covering every historical period since then. The museum fits well with the fame and history of Albacete since the 15th century as a knife making powerhouse.
Access & Transport
The museum is situated on the Plaza de la Cathedral in Albacete. The city can be reached by AVE (high speed train) from Madrid in 1h40m. By car from Madrid, Albacete is 260km in a south-eastern direction along the A-4/AP-36/A-31. It is also 160km to the south of Cuenca and 170km to the southwest of Valencia.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with a visit of the rest of the city (covered under a separate review)
Environmental & Social
Some environment impact to run the museum (mostly electricity). Helps preserve the city's artisanal heritage.
Conclusion
The museum should be on anyone's list of places to visit whilst in Albacete. It is a welcome change from traditional museums but remains both educational and visually engaging. In addition, it deals with an industry that has been central to the city's economy for the last few centuries and is a matter of great pride locally.
