Canelobre Caves - by Management
Description
The Canelobre Caves are located at 700 meters of altitude, on the northern slope of the Cabezón de Oro, in the province of Alicante. It is one of the largest caves in the region with a main vault of 70m in height and a 100,000+ year old stalagmite called El canelobre (chandelier in Valencian). The geological features include the usual suspects: stalactites, coralloids, stalagmites, flowstones, draperies, columns, helictites, gours, spars, crusts and flowers. Visits are via guided tours of 45mins.
Access & Transport
The attraction is along the CV-776 in Busot, 25km north of Alicante. There is a small onsite parking and a larger one a 10 mins walk before the entrance.
Instructions & Recommendations
Tickets also provides access to the Museum of Ethnic Music. Temperature inside is 17-18ºC, in marked contrast with the temperature outside in the summer. Visitors are not allowed to take pictures in the cave.
Environmental & Social
Low carbon footprint (electricity only) and provides a minor injection of economic activity in this rural area.
Conclusion
The Canelobre Caves are, in our opinion, nice but not exceptional. As such, they are worth discovering if you are in the area (or as part of a regional itinerary), but we would not recommend a special trip from further away than Alicante.
