Juan-les-Pins beaches, Antibes

Boulevard Charles Guillaumont, Antibes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

Description

Juan-les-Pins is a town in the commune of Antibes, along the French riviera between Nice and Cannes. It is a major holiday destination with beaches, nightclubs and a casino. The name comes from the Golfe-Juan (where it is located) and the local stone pine trees. There is a mix of public and heavily cordoned-off private beaches between the end of Cap d'Antibes on the eastern side to the edge of the Vallauris-Golf Juan on the western side. The main public beach is called "Grande Plage" and it includes showers and toilets.

Access & Transport

Juan-les-Pins station is on the Marseille–Ventimiglia railway (which also goes through Cannes and Nice) and the seaside is 3mins walk away. By car from Nice, it is a 25km slow drive (approx 35-50mins) and from Cannes it is only 10km (~20mins) The closest beaches under "handiplage" label (for wheelchair users) are Plage du Soleil in Vallauris Golfe Juan and Plage de la Salis in Antibes

Instructions & Recommendations

It's the beach and the sun can be strong in the southeast of France so don't forget the usual protective equipment (hat/cap, "green" sunblock, sunglasses, slippers) and some water. Other nearby activities include the Picasso Museum in Antibes

Meta review

Juan les Pins beaches get positive reviews by visitors who enjoy the mix of sun, sand, restaurants / bars and nightlife. For those whose primary interest is the beach itself though, comments are a lot more mixed with overcrowding in July & August being the main issue. Feedback around the quality of the sand and water cleanliness are also inconsistent but it seems that the St Tropez area has better options.

Environmental & Social

No carbon footprint and socially neutral

Conclusion

Objectively, the beaches of Juan-les-Pins are nice but not exceptional. However, considered as a package with the restaurants, chilled atmosphere of Antibes and the various sights in the region, it does make for a very agreeable afternoon / evening or a multi-day stay for sun-seekers.

Key negative

Crowded in the summer
