Dungeon Amsterdam - by Management
Description
The Amsterdam Dungeon defines itself as a "horror theatre show" where rides and shows with live actors and special effects take visitors through century of dark times in the city. The main attractions include the torture chamber, the Ship's Doctor with its scary surgery equipment, the Council of Blood short film, and the Labyrinth of Lost Amsterdam.
Access & Transport
Address: Rokin 78, 1012 KW Amsterdam The building is next to the Rokin metro/tram station (52, 4, 14, 24). There are also some bus services
Instructions & Recommendations
Note that the recommended min. age is 10 and that children up to the age of 12 must always be in the company of someone over the age of 16. This activity can easily be combined with a walk through the Begijnhof and the 9 Streets neighbourhood. Dam Square and the Royal Palace are also a short walking distance away
Environmental & Social
No environmental data available; we deem this marginally negative on account of the energy requirements. Socially neutral
Conclusion
The Amsterdam Dungeon is an entertaining activity for those looking for a bit of thrill in the center of the city. We are not talking adrenaline rush or horror movie but 60-75mins of immersion in a dark version of local history. The main issue for most is that pricing bears no relation to the quality and duration of the experience which makes for poor value. Also, since it isn't truly specific to Amsterdam, we would not recommend it to first time visitors - there are better ways to invest your time and money.
Key positive
Fun non-cultural activity for a group of young people
Key negative
Very expensive for what it is
Mixed experience for many visitors
Suitability
Not suitable for children under 10-12. Standard wheelchair users can access the attractions but not electric wheelchair or mobility scooters (a standard one can be borrowed, if available).
