Description
The Amsterdam Forest (Amsterdam Bos) is a landscaped park on the southern edge of Amsterdam, technically in the municipality of Amstelveen but owned by the City of Amsterdam. It was developed in the 1930's and covers about 1,000ha with a host of amenities such as sporting facilities, an open-air theatre, rowing venues, gardens, and animal parks.
Access & Transport
Tram 24 and metro 50 & 51 stop at Amstelveenseweg station, 2.5km to the northeast of the park. To get closer, take tram 24 + bus 347/357 (transfer in Olympisch Stadion) or metro 52 + bus 348/358 (transfer in Zuid) For those driving there, there are some free parking spots inside.
Instructions & Recommendations
You may want to wear comfortable walking or sporting shoes. It is an excellent option for runners looking for green spaces.
Environmental & Social
Green activity. Socially, it has a marginally positive impact on the community through an improvement in quality of life (it is pleasant and healthy to have a park nearby) + sporting facilities
Conclusion
Amsterdam Forest is the largest park so close to the center of the city and is therefore an excellent option for those looking to stretch their legs in a green environment. However, it does serve its purpose well but doesn't really qualify as a tourist highlight, having no significant monument or detour-worthy natural feature, except possibly for the spring blossoms.
