Heineken Experience - by Andrey Barbosa on Google
Description
The Heineken Experience consists in a visit of the beer manufacturer's oldest brewery, in the canal area of Amsterdam. It is no longer operating (since 1988) but has been maintained and transformed into a venue where visitors can discover the history and production process of the brand. There are several tours available, and the Heineken Tour reviewed here consist in a 90mins visit that is concluded by "two perfectly chilled Heineken beers at the Best 'Dam Bar". The tours are conducted in English, but an app is available in other languages.
Access & Transport
The building is at Stadhouderskade 78, 1072 AE Amsterdam This is next to the tram station Weteringcircuit (7, 10, 16, 24) and the Vijzelgracht metro station (52) is just across the canal. Paid parking is available 200m away at APCOA Parking Heinekenplein
Instructions & Recommendations
Do note that children aged under 18 are not allowed on the tour (even accompanied by an adult)
Environmental & Social
Environmentally, consumes some electricity but not unreasonable. Socially, marginally negative as it promotes alcohol consumption (even though not explicitly) with little cultural aspects attached to it.
Conclusion
The "Heineken Tour" is enjoyable and engaging but do not expect to come out of it knowing tons about the craft of brewing beer - in that sense we find value is highly debatable. Based on the brand's history and the facilities at their disposal, we think there is room for improvement.
Key positive
Impressive facilities, especially the copper tanks
Centrally located
Key negative
Little information about beer brewing / manufacturing
No longer an operating facility so it feels less authentic
Suitability
Suitable for adults who like beer (Heineken preferably). Accessible for visitors with reduced mobility
