The 9 Streets - by Claus Mortensen on Google
Description
The Nine Streets or De Negen Straatjes is a sub-neighbourhood of Amsterdam's Grachtengordel (Canal Belt). It consists of nine streets between Singel and the Prinsengracht that are being promoted by local entrepreneurs as one of the city's best and most scenic shopping areas with fashion and vintage clothes shops, art galleries, and trendy cafes and restaurants. Most of the buildings date from the 18th century and 140 of them are listed as either national or municipal monuments.
Access & Transport
The Westermarkt tram station (13, 17) borders the area on the northern side and Koningsplein (2, 12) is at its south-eastern corner. Dam Square (2, 12, 13, 17) is also close by, near its north-eastern corner.
Instructions & Recommendations
Most stores open around 10h-11h. We would recommend combining sightseeing there with a visit of Anne Frank House or of the Jordaan neighbourhood, just to the west.
Environmental & Social
No environmental data but there is no excess of energy consumption. Some negative community impact from the rising rents that is partially compensated by the development of many independent businesses
Conclusion
De Negen Straatjes may not be the best value shopping area, but it probably has the best mix or architecture, atmosphere, trendy restaurants and independent fashion stores. Some may find it too expensive but then it doesn't take away from the enjoyment of roaming the neighbourhood.

Plenty of choice for shoppers and food hipsters

Key negative
The area has become quite expensive
