Description
The Natural Park of Posets–Maladeta is located on the southern flank of the Pyrenees Mountain range, in north-eastern Aragon, Spain. The Ibon de Escarpinosa trail is one of the most popular in the area. The 13km out-and-back hike has a cumulative ascent of about 750m, making it suitable for novice hikers with a base fitness level. The estimated completion time is 3 to 4h depending on pace and duration of breaks.
Access & Transport
The trailhead is at the parking next to the Rio Estos, just off the A-139, 4km up the valley from Benasque. The town itself is a long 140km drive from Huesca, 145km from Lleida (Catalunya) and 100km from the French border (down the pass and up the valley) near Bagneres-de-Luchon.
Instructions & Recommendations
Make sure to bring some snacks (and possibly a picnic), plenty of water and sun protection. In terms of footwear, trail shoes are sufficient (no need to have specific hiking shoes).

Eco-friendly. Socially marginally positive as it brings some revenues to the villages in the valley
