Vía Verde del Val de Zafán with Matarrañaventura - by Management
Description
The Val de Zafán 'Green Line' follows the old railway line between La Puebla de Híjar (Teruel Prov.) and Tortosa (Prov. of Tarragona). It goes through several tunnels and viaducts and is very flat with mild slopes. Operators such as Matarrañaventura propose bike rentals of varying length with organized pick-ups in a downhill direction (from Aragon to Catalunya!). The activity reviewed here is their 'Yellow route' between Cretas (where they are based) and the station of Pinell de Brai, 27km away. There are 2 choices available for pick-ups at the end: 13h30 or 15h30 and the drive back takes about 45mins.
Access & Transport
Cretas is in the southeast of Aragon, close to Catalunya. From Zaragoza, it is a 150km drive on the N232 and N-420. In fact, the closest city is Tarragona (Catalunya), 115km to the northeast.
Instructions & Recommendations
The minimum age is 8years old and it is essential to know how to ride a bicycle. The operator also rents out electric bikes and can organize pick-up for 15-18€ / person for those with their own bicycles. The suggested departure time is around 9h15-10h00 so you can enjoy breaks along the way and swim in the river (in the summer).
Environmental & Social
Green activity that supports small independent operators
Conclusion
A perfect way to get the legs moving with no cars in sight and enjoy some picturesque countryside. We like the pick-up and various length options and think that pricing is very fair considering the services provided.
