Hellenic Maritime Museum, Piraeus - by Frank Benson on Google

Description
The Hellenic Maritime Museum (HMM) documents and exhibits items relating to the maritime history of Greece since prehistoric times, including the Byzantine era and merchant shipping. There are ship models, paintings, maps, weapons, nautical instruments and even a submarine turret outside.
Access & Transport
The museum is located immediately south of Marina Zeas, in Piraeus, 9km southwest of Athens' city centre. Athen's Metro line 3 now extends to Dimotiko Theatro station, a 20 mins walk from the museum. Alternatively, the line 1 and suburban trains go to the 'Piraeus' station, next to the port. From there take bus 94 to 'Freattidos Square' stop or bus 300 to 'Tzanion Hospital', 300m away from the HMM.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this attraction with a walk through the Piraiki neighbourhood (good place for tavernas and fish restaurants), the Marina Zeas, and checking out the Municipal Theatre and the Hagia Triada Cathedral (Holy Trinity) in downtown Piraeus.
Environmental & Social
No environmental related info, the main impact is from electricity use (a/c). Minor educational aspect
Conclusion
The museum partially delivers on its objective of showing the importance of the sea and seafaring for the Hellenes but it fails to impress and leave a mark in any way, dragged down by a museography that is not well-thought through and would require a significant upgrade.
