Description
The Basilica of San Vicente is a Romanesque church in the town of Ávila that was constructed over the course of the 12th to 15th centuries with sandstone reflecting orange and yellow hues. Highlights include the finely sculpted western portal, the cenotaph of the Holy Martyrs (Saints Vincent, Sabina and Cristeta), the chapel of the south apse, and the main altarpiece.
Access & Transport
The church is located just north of the walls of Avila, next to the Puerta de San Vicent and 300m from the cathedral. Avila is 110km west of Madrid (train takes 90mins from Principe Pio station) and Salamanca is 105km to the northwest (65mins by train)
