Nung Nung Waterfall - by Marina Rysko on Google
Description
Nungnung waterfall is one of Bali's most spectacular waterfalls. It is nearly 50m high and located in a forested area roughly in the centre of the island. The water throughput is at its strongest during the rainy season. Getting to the bottom of the waterfall involves descending nearly 500 steps - which needs to be ascended on the way back. The out-and-back alone should take about 50mins (not including time spent at the waterfall).
Access & Transport
Entrance to the waterfall is just off Jl Raya Pura Pucak Mangu, about 35km northwest of Ubud and 45-50km north of Denpasar to Kuta area. The trail includes a mix of dirt, concrete path and plenty of stairs.
Instructions & Recommendations
It is best to wear shoes with a rubber sole for grip as it can be quite wet, and don't forget to carry some drinking water. This attraction can easily be combined with Lake Beratan & Ulun Danu Temple (22km / 40mins away)
Environmental & Social
Green activity. Socially / community neutral
Conclusion
Nungnung waterfall is certainly impressive and travellers with their own wheels or driver on an island road trip can safely add it to their roster. That being said, given there are many other more easily accessible waterfalls and spectacular natural features in Bali, we would not recommend making a significant detour for it, especially if pressed for time.
Key positive
Visually impressive and not crowded
Key negative
Time consuming to get to
Suitability
Not recommended for families with children under 8yrs old and not accessible for visitors with reduced mobility because of the numerous stairs.
