Description
Pura Taman Ayun was a royal temple complex built in the 17th century in Mengwi, Bali. It comprised four different courts with multi-tiered pagodas and is encircled by a moat. The first inner court has a large hall used for community gatherings called a 'wantilan' and the third one is the most sacred: it contains a gate called Utama Mandala that is only open during specific ceremonies. It is one of the best places in Bali to attend festivals such as the piodalan that takes place every 210 days (same as Uluwatu or Tanah Lot temples).
Access & Transport
Address: Jalan Ayodya, Mengwi Mengwi is 75mins drive from Kuta / Seminyak and 45mins from Ubud. It lies next to Jl Raya Denpasar, one of the main north-south axis of communication (it links Denpasar with Singaraja, going past Danau Beratan).

The temple complex of Taman Ayun is, in our opinion, one of the most enjoyable in Bali. It deserves a special trip but can also easily be included on the way to Lake Beratan or transferring between the Kuta/Seminyak and Ubud areas.
