Batur Geopak Museum - by Koreval
Description
The Batur Geopark Museum has dioramas and exhibits describing the geology, biodiversity, and culture of the Batur UNESCO Global Geopark centred around the Batur stratovolcano, its accompanying lake and its two calderas. There is also information about nearby Gunung Agung, another volcano that is Bali's highest summit.
Access & Transport
The museum is on the rim of the Batur caldera in Kinamani, at the junction with the road from Bangli. It is 30km / 1h northeast of Ubud and 70km / 2h30 from Kuta-Seminyak, Lake Batur is 4km downhill by road.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest starting your day with a hike up Mt Batur followed by coffee or lunch in Kintamani and then an hour in the museum. It is also possible to combine this activity with Besakih temple, a 35mins drive away.
Environmental & Social
Moderate carbon footprint on a per-visitor basis (the air is much cooler than in the plains). Educational content
Conclusion
The museum is a worthwhile educational addition that provides visitors to the Batur area with a scientific explanation of what they have been admiring together with some info on the local ecosystems. Do not be surprised if there are hardly any visitors here, it is not advertised and it is a long drive from the main tourist centers of the island.
