Kelingking Beach - by Seonyoung Yang on Google
Description
Kelingking is one Nusa Penida's most famous sights. It consists of cliff edge views over the ocean and a crescent of golden sand 300m below, accessible through a super steep combination of dirt path and stairs. The beach at the bottom is one of the very best and arguably the most spectacular not just on the island but in Bali. Nusa Penida is the largest (200km2) and furthest of the three south-eastern islands of Bali. It is known for its spectacular scenery (cliffs and beaches) and renowned diving sites such as Manta Point.
Access & Transport
The site is about 7km west of the "main road" in Batumadeg. The best way to get there is by scooter or with a taxi. You can also join an organised day-tour.
Instructions & Recommendations
Access to the beach is tricky and requires moderate level of fitness but more importantly proper footwear with some grip (rubber sole sandals or running shoes). Do not attempt if it is slippery / raining or too windy. And make sure you leave sufficient time between your start and sunset time so as to get sufficient light on your way back up the trail. Count 25mins each way.
Environmental & Social
Green activity and, so far, it hasn't had too much detrimental impact on the local community (unlike other prime attractions in Bali)
Conclusion
For many, Kelingking would be reason enough to come to Nusa Penida - we'd rather say it is one more reason to come! It is genuinely stunning and the expedition down to the beach adds to the experience.
