Sanur town

Description
Sanur was one of Bali's first tourist developments (in the 1960's) and, after many years, it is now seeing strong renewed interest and investment as other areas of South Bali are becoming saturated and expensive. The town is located to the southeast of Denpasar, along the shore facing the islands of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida (boats make the crossing several times a day). It is well-known for the large number of resorts there and the traditional fishing boats that can be seen (and photographed) on the beach.
Access & Transport
The town is 14km northwest of the airport (minibus and taxis easily available), 12-15km from the Kuta to Seminyak stretch, 10km from Denpasar and 25km south of Ubud.
Instructions & Recommendations
Sanur is a good base for those looking to explore Ubud or the islands of Nusa Lembongan / Penida as day trips
Environmental & Social
Over-built and getting worse. The development of the area has been a boon for local employment, but it also exacerbates negative behaviours.
Conclusion
Sanur offers a good and expanding range of accommodation which makes it a good choice for value-oriented travellers and families looking for the sun, restaurants and a beach. The latter isn't exceptional but does the job and there are plenty of water-based activities on offer. What it lacks though, is something special to see or experience.
