Montjuïc Cable Car

30 Avinguda Miramar, Barcelona, Catalunya

Description

The Montjuïc Cable Car ("Telefèric de Montjuïc" in Catalan) is a gondola lift taking customers from the upper level of the Montjuïc funicular (it replaced its 2nd stage) up to the top of hill next to the Montjuïc Castle. The line is about 750m long with a vertical ascent of 85m at a speed of about 9km/h. Cabins on the way down make a stop at an intermediary station called "Mirador" (for access to the Mirador de l'Alcade). Even though it is operated by the TMB, it is not part of the metropolitan integrated fare network Note that it should not be confused with the Port Vell Aerial Tramway, which links Barceloneta with Montjuïc Hill.

Access & Transport

The best way to get there is to use the Montjuïc Funicular, from Paral·lel metro station (L2 and L3) or the bus 55/150. It is also a short walk from the Joan Miro Foundation.

Instructions & Recommendations

This activity is best combined with other attractions on the Montjuïc hill such as the Castle, the Joan Miro Fondation, the Barcelona Botanical Garden or the Mirador de l'Alcade.

Meta review

The reviews are mixed and many of the positive ones do not feel genuine (systematically making a point that it is not overpriced which is not what people mention when they have a good experience). For most customers, the views are enjoyable - and clearly the main draw, but the price is excessive.

Environmental & Social

No environment related data available, we deem this activity slightly negative because of the electricity consumption (walking is a greener and healthier alternative). Socially neutral.

Conclusion

The Montjuïc Cable Car is not a full-fledged attraction, it is a fun way to get from one place to another saving yourself the trouble of an uphill walk. However, whilst the views are nice, they are neither exceptional nor the best in the city (Tibidabo is much higher up) and pricing is about one order of magnitude too high for us to recommend it.

Key positive

Nice views over the city and a comfortable way to reach the Montjuic Castle

Key negative

The price!

There can be a waiting line during the peak tourist season

Suitability
