Meta review

The reviews for this Museum are overwhelmingly positive. Visitors enjoy the quality and wide timeframe of the collections, the building's architecture and the views over the city from the Rooftop. The only recurring complaint is that descriptions are only in Catalan and Spanish, which is surprising given the quality of the collection and the "National Museum" status.

Environmental & Social

The Museum is powered by electricity produced from renewable sources. It also has a social responsibility policy but there are no specific details on projects and impact. Spreads the arts

Conclusion

The Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya is hands down the best museum in the city in terms of size and breadth of collection - this doesn't mean however that it will be everybody's favourite as there is a strong focus on religious art (the dominent theme in European paintings until the 19h century), which won't be everybody's cup of tea. The setting is equally impressive with great views over Plaça Espanya and the city.

Key positive

The Palau Nacional is a beautiful and impressive building

Extensive art collection

Key negative

A lof of the art is religious, which might disappoint some visitors

Suitability

Best suited for adults and children aged 12 and above - the younger ones are likely to find the art uninteresting. Accessible for visitors with reduced mobility.
