Description
Tibidabo Amusement Park is located at the top of Tibidabo hill, along the Collserola Ridge in Barcelona. It opened in 1905 which makes it the 3rd oldest amusement park in Europe. The main emblematic rides are that of the Plane which gives passengers the impression to fly above the city, the Muntanya Russa roller-coaster and the Giradabo big wheel.
Access & Transport
The best way to get there is by car but there are also a few public transport options. The first one is the Tibibus (T2A) from Plaça de Catalunya (takes 30') and the 2nd one is to take the S1 or S2 train from Plaça de Catalunya to Peu del Funicular followed by the funicular railway to Vallvidrera Superior and then bus 111 to Plaça Tibidabo. The 3rd option, that of the Tramvia Blau (Blue TRam), is currently not available due to extensive repairs. Refer to the following link for more details: https://www.tibidabo.cat/en/plan-your-visit/how-to-get-here/public-transport
Instructions & Recommendations
Make sure you double check the opening days schedule and that you are aware of the height restrictions applicable for each ride (all detailed on the park's website) This activity is best combined with the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus right next to it or a hike in the Serra de Collserola Natural Park (proper footwear is needed + carry some water)
Environmental & Social
The Park has implemented policies and investments to reduce waste and consumption of water and electricity by using solar panels, LED lighting, recycling points and reusable glass. There is also a biodiversity programme. In addition, the park runs social responsibility and educational projects and initiatives.
Conclusion
Tibidao Amusement Park is a worthwhile option for families looking for rides not involving a lengthy trip out of the city. Visitors will also get treated to fantastic views over Barcelona but if you are looking for adrenaline inducing rides you may need to look elsewhere and further.
