Description
The flea market at Mauerpark in Berlin is held weekly on Sundays and consists of mainly private salespersons selling items ranging from toys to vinyls, clothes, shoes and second-hand cameras / lenses. There are also some food stalls and many cafés on the streets around Mauerpark. From spring to autumn, there are also karaoke sessions that take place at the amphitheatre from 3pm onward.
Access & Transport
The Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark tram stop (12, 50, M1, M2, M4, M10) is at the southern edge of the park and the Eberswalder Straße station (U2 and trams 12, 50, M1, M2, M4, M10) is at the southeastern corner. The bus 247 services Graunstraße along the western side of the Park.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this with the Berlin War Memorial on Bernauer Str.
Environmental & Social
Promotes recycling / second life of products. Creates a bit of a community spirit and supports small independent operators
Conclusion
The Mauerpark fleamarket is a nice alternative to the large commercial squares or boulevards and the various museums in the city. Not extraordinary by any stretch, but if you have some spare time on a Sunday, it is a good option to discover more of the city and maybe buy a couple of cool second-hand items.
Key positive
A relaxed, less commercial way to shop and discover Berlin
Some good casual food options
Key negative
A lot of low-quality items and sometimes pushy sellers
Suitability
No restrictions
