Catedral de Santiago, Bilbao - by Manuel Correas on Google
Description
The Catedral de Santiago de Bilbao was built between the late 14th century and the early 16th century, it served as transit point for the pilgrims en route to Santiago de Compostella (hence its name), following the Northern Branch of the Way of Saint James. The main architectural features are its Gothic Revival façade and its ornate portals, the Capilla Mayor, and the 15th-century Gothic cloister.
Access & Transport
The Cathedral is in the heart of the historical centre of Bilbao, just 200m south of Plaza Nueva. The 'Casco Viejo'/Zazpikaleak train and metro station is 400m away and the tram station Ariaga (5) 300m away along the riverbank.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining a visit there with an exploration of the old quarter, including the Plaza Nueva and the Ribera Market.
Environmental & Social
Environmentally neutral. Helps maintain the town's cultural and architectural heritages
