Marché des Capucins- by Isabelle Francois on Google
Description
The Marché des Capucins is Bordeaux's best-known market. There are stalls selling fresh fruits and vegetables, charcuterie (cold cuts), meats, cheese, other fresh produces as well as some cafes. The first market was held there towards the end of the 18th century, initially weekly and focused on cattle, it shifted towards food and progressively started being held daily. It was covered around 1880.
Access & Transport
The market is just south of the city centre. Buses 1, 11 and 15 stop nearby and the Victoire tram stop (line B) is only 400m away. There is paying parking onsite (2,00€ / hour)
Instructions & Recommendations
Go early for the best choice of fresh produce or around lunch time if you are planning to eat there. We suggest combining a visit there with a walk to Place de la Victoire or the Basilica Saint Michael.
Environmental & Social
Environmentally neutral. Socially positive as it promotes small operators and stall owners.
Conclusion
The Marché des Capucins is popular with city residents for a good reason: there is an extensive range of products, quality is generally good, and the prices are a little high but not unreasonable. In short, it genuinely is still an everyday market in a big French city and has not gentrified to the point that only hip foreign tourists go there - like is sometimes the case in European capitals. There are other also good alternatives in the city or surrounding villages but you may not find as such variety and restaurants next to it.
Key positive

Looks and cleaning could be improved
