Instructions & Recommendations

We suggest combining this activity with a visit of the Bordeaux Cathedral, a 2 mins' walk away.

Meta review

The museum is not well known internationally but most visitors enjoy the "good" or "right" size of the collection, large enough but not too much that one doesn't have the proper time to spend on each art piece. Most reviewers also enjoy what they deem to be noteworthy paintings but, for another significant percentage of visitors, the collection lacks masterpieces and is therefore not worth their time. From a practical standpoint, the main recurring comments are that lighting, positioning and identification of the drawings and paintings needs improvement.

Environmental & Social

Some electricity usage to run the museum. Helps spread culture and the arts

Conclusion

The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux is an excellent museum, not on par with the most famous internationally of course but you won't be surrounded by thousands of tourists, and it is very affordable. The content is not really specific to the city or region so it should have a broad appeal and is a nice cultural activity to add to the mix, for tourists and residents alike.
