Faneuil Hall Marketplace & Quincy Market

1 South Market Street, Boston, Massachusetts

Description

Neighbouring Quincy Market was built around 1825 and together with North market, Faneuil Hall, and South Market, it form Faneuil Hall Marketplace. Nowadays, it houses several dozen shops and F&B stores.

Access & Transport

The complex is in the center of Boston, about 250m west from the waterfront. It is a short 3-5mins' walk to the following metro stations: Aquarium (Blue), Haymarket (Green & Orange) and State (Orange & Blue)

Instructions & Recommendations

Nearby attractions include the New England Aquarium, the Paul Revere House, and Old State House & Old South Meeting House.

Meta review

A lot of fake online reviews but, reading through them, the market's best qualities are the buildings architecture and the diversity of cuisine options under one roof with the fresh lobster rolls and clam chowder among the favourites of travellers to the city. However, many visitors rate the quality as average - a bit of a tourist trap as you would expect.

Environmental & Social

No information around sourcing. Consumerist aspects but also helps preserve the city's architectural heritage

Conclusion

A good option for a quick lunch or buying some souvenirs in between tourist attractions but not a F&B or shopping destination by any means

Key positive

Attractive historical buildings

Plenty of choice

Key negative

Not a great price to quality ratio

Suitability

No restrictions
