Fenway Park tour (Boston Red Sox)

4 Jersey Street, Boston, Massachusetts

Description

Fenway Park is a baseball stadium in Boston, the home of the Boston Red Sox since 1912. It is the oldest Major League active baseball ballpark, and the team is one of the most successful in the LB's history with 9 World Series championships and famous players such as Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, and Carl Yastrzemski. The stadium offers one hour guided tours during which visitors can learn more about the history of the stadium and the home team, and discover a collection of artefacts and photographs related to them.

Access & Transport

The stadium is in the namesake Fenway neighbourhood, in the southwest of Boston, about 1km past Back Bay. The Lansdowne train station and Kenmore metro (Green line) are both a very short walk away.

Instructions & Recommendations

Tours depart at the top of each hour but note that on game days the last tour departs 3 hours before game time.

Meta review

Online reviews are almost consistently positive but there is an overwhelming number of reviewers that are Red Sox fans! Generally, visitors find the guides are knowledgeable and do a good job of sharing the history of both the ballpark and the team, but many are disappointed at not being able to step on the field or in the dugout. Some recurring negative comments about the bag restrictions being too tight at security.

Environmental & Social

Stadiums are energy intensive but the team has made commitments in terms of carbon offset and pursues several green initiatives across recycling, LED lighting and electricity sourcing. Info here: https://www.mlb.com/redsox/ballpark/green-initiatives

The tour should be enjoyable for baseball fans, not just the Red Sox ones, but it may be quite underwhelming otherwise.
