Description
Old North Church is the oldest standing church in Boston. It was built in Georgian style in the 1720s and known as the place used by Paul Revere and Boston patriots to send a warning message about British troop movements by hanging lanterns ("One if by land, and two if by sea" as per Longfellow's 1860 poem).
Access & Transport
The church is near the northern tip of the historical center of Boston. North Station metro (Orange and Green lines) and train station is a 10mins walk to the west.
Instructions & Recommendations
Guided tours of the crypt are also available several times a week and cost $10/pers.
Environmental & Social
Environmentally neutral. Preserves the city's architectural and historical heritages.
Conclusion
This is a monument cum historical museum for those with an interest in 18th century Boston and the events related to Paul Revere's "ride", not for those looking for religious art or spectacular architecture. The admission fee charged also does not seem proportionate to the value being offered, for children in particular.
