Tropical Islands water park

1 Tropical-Islands-Allee, Krausnick, Brandenburg

Description

Tropical Islands Resort is a water park with a tropical theme and climate located 60km south of Berlin, on the site of the former Soviet airfield Brand. The resort is housed in the Aerium, previously an airship hangar and one of the biggest free-standing halls in the world. Inside, the air temperature is about 26 °C and there are tropical trees, a beach, several swimming pools and water slides organized into 4 themed areas. A fifth area, the Amazonia, is located outdoor next to the hall. The practical information provided here is for day-tickets but there is also the option of staying overnight in a room, lodge or tent.

Access & Transport

By public transport from, take the RE2 train from Berlin Friedrichstraßeto station to Lübben station and then bus 506. There is also a shuttle bus which is available about every 30mins from/to the Tropical Islands Brand train station.

Instructions & Recommendations

Meta review

The water park gets good reviews overall with most of the dissatisfied comments emanating from overnight guests who had a negative check-in experience, which is beyond the scope of this review. Visitors enjoy the various pools and slides, both indoor and outdoor, and many would be happy to return or have in fact been there several times, sometimes from different countries (mostly Northern-European). The main complaints relate to the poor food quality (typical theme park fast food) and the lack of signage.

Environmental & Social

The Parques Reunidos group is involved with child welfare initiatives related to health and social integration. On the environmental front the policy statement is quite generic and scant in details except to say that they encourage visitors to reuse and recycle in their European and USA parks. This park also creates a significant number of jobs locally.

Conclusion

The Tropical Islands water park is quite a sight and enjoyable but, for international travellers, it shouldn't be high up in the ranking of attractions in Berlin & Brandenburg (if one is looking for the beach you are better served going somewhere else). For those residing within a 2h drive radius though, it is certainly a fun way to spend a day and possibly beat the winter weather once in a while. Make sure you do the appropriate research if you intend to stay overnight.
