Description
The Manneken Pis is a famous bronze fountain sculpture just south of Bruxelles' Grand-Place. It was designed by sculptor Jérôme Duquesnoy the Elder in the early 17th century and depicts a little naked boy urinating into the fountain's basin (the literal translation of Manneken Pis in Dutch is "Little Pissing Man"). Traditionally, the little boy is dressed in costumes several times a week (there is a published schedule) and there is a dedicated museum called Garderobe MannekenPis exhibiting his wardrobe (more than 1,000 pieces).
Access & Transport
The statue is at the junction of Rue de l'Etuve and Rue du Chene, less than 5mins walk from the Grand-Place. In terms of public transports, it is 2mins walk from the 'Manneken Pis' (48) and 'Grand-Place" (33, 48, 95) bus stops or a 5mins walk to Anneessens or Bourse/Beurs tram stations (3, 4)
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with a visit of the Garderobe MannekenPis museum and the Grand-Place.
Environmental & Social
We deem this attraction environmentally and socially neutral
Conclusion
The Manneken Pis is well known and if you are around the Grand-Place it makes sense to include it in your exploration of the neighbourhood but, frankly, there is little to it and we doubt Bruxelles residents disagree given the wealth of (real) sights in the city.
