Description
The Mont des Arts (Kunstberg) was developed as an arts' quarter under King Leopold II, at the end of the 19th century. Due to lack of financing, a temporary garden was designed for the purpose of the Brussels International Exposition of 1910. It was subsequently developed in the 1950-60s with the Royal Library of Belgium (KBR), the National Archives of Belgium, and the Square-Brussels Meeting Centre. The square is adorned by the Mont des Arts carillon and the Equestrian Statue of Albert I.
Access & Transport
Mont des Arts is extremely central and located next to the "Central" train and metro station (1, 5) with Koning tram station (92, 93) another public transport option on the south-eastern end, around Place Royale.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with one of the museums around Place Royale such as Musee Magritte or with a visit of the Royal Palace.
Environmental & Social
A garden to relieve the surrounding concrete. Part of the city's architectural heritage.
Conclusion
Mont des Arts is not an unmissable sight, but it is definitely an enjoyable one that can easily be included when vising the attractions around Place Royale and Brussels Park.
