Vajdahunyad Castle - by Rafał Sobierański on Google

Description
Vajdahunyad Castle was built in 1896 for the Millennial Exhibition celebrating the 1,000 years since the conquest of the Carpathian Basin by the Magyars or Hungarians. It is a copy of the Hunyad Castle in the Transylvania region which is nowadays part of Romania. The complex consists of a Gothic castle that houses the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture, a Renaissance Palace, a Romanesque Church, a boating lake, and the statues of Count Sandor Karoly and the 12th century chronicler Anonymus.
Access & Transport
The castle complex is located in Budapest's City Park (Városliget), close to Heroes' Square and about 3km northwest of the city centre. The metro station Széchenyi fürdő (M1) is 5mins away and Hősök (M1) is 7-8mins away.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining a visit there with the Museum of Fine Arts and one of the attractions in City Park such as the Zoo or the Széchenyi Thermal Bath.
Environmental & Social
No carbon footprint from visitors. Now an integral part of the city's architectural landscape.
Conclusion
If you enjoy castles that have a cliché 'romantic' look, then make sure to include a visit of the grounds of Vajdahunyad - and try to do so on a sunny day to make the most of the lakeside setting.
