Cáceres - by Josema Pele on Google

Description
Cáceres was founded by the Romans in 25 BC and has retained city walls and a medieval historical centre blending architecture and monuments from different periods (Roman, Moorish, Gothic, and Renaissance) that makes it a UNESCO WHS alumni. Highlights include the various Moorish towers, the Plaza Mayor and the Arch of the Star, the Casa de las Veletas (which houses the Museum of Cáceres), the Co-Cathedral of Santa María, the Old Jewish Quarter, and the Church of San Francisco. Trivia: Cáceres is the municipality with the largest land area in the country (1,750km2).
Access & Transport
The town is located in the southern part of the namesake province, 130km northeast of Badajoz, 300km from Madrid (3h by train), and 260km from Sevilla.
Instructions & Recommendations
Nearby sights include the town of Trujillo (nice Plaza Mayor), the Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe, and the famous Roman ruins in Merida (75km straight south).
Environmental & Social
The main attractions in the city have a low carbon footprint. Tourism is a welcome injection of activity and revenues in the local economy
Conclusion
Cáceres is very much worth including in an itinerary exploring Extremadura, only those looking for modern entertainment risk being disappointed. As is the case for the rest of this region, spring and autumn guarantee the best weather conditions for tourism.
