Plaza Mayor de Trujillo - by Manuel Torres Garcia from Pixabay

Description
Trujillo has a well-preserved architectural heritage, it was a taifa until the 11th century and was thereafter on a territory disputed by the various kingdoms (Al-Andalus, Portugal, Castile, Leon). The wealth of the city soared during the time of the conquistadores who brought back riches from the Americas that spurred the development of churches and palaces centred around the monumental Plaza Mayor. In the centre of the square is an equestrian statue commemorating Francisco Pizarro, the conquistador, perhaps the most famous son of the city.
