Bodegas Tradición - by Vicente Lizaso on Google
Description
Jerez de la Frontera is regarded as the world capital of sherry wine and many famous bodegas (wineries) are located in the town, many from British origin as the British Isles were the main consumer market for the fortified wine (just like Port wine) Bodegas Tradición offers 90mins guided tours of the property including an in-house art gallery of Spanish paintings. Visitors will get to learn about the wine making and ageing process as well as taste some of the bodega's wines.
Access & Transport
Address: C. Cordobeses, 3, 11408 Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz The Bodegas is close to the Archaeological Museum, 800m / 10mins walk northwest of the Cathedral and Alcázar. The closest parking is on Pl. del Mercado (there are some spaces in front of the Bodega but they are likely reserved for employees)
Instructions & Recommendations
Note that the terms and conditions state the minimum age as 18yrs old since alcohol is served. There are tours available in Spanish, English and Deutsch at fixed times during the day
Environmental & Social
Environmentally neutral. Socially the cultural aspect (discovery of the terroir and wine making culture of the Jerez region) evens out the alcohol element.
Conclusion
Coming to Jerez and not visiting a Bodegas is a missed opportunity - unless alcoholic drinks are off-the radar for you of course. The sherry wine making process is indeed unique and is best discovered in the region where it was developed. The guided tours organized by Bodegas Tradición are some of the best in town but, at the current rate, they do represent poor value.
