Cadiz Museum - by Ubaldo Naya on Google
Description
The Museum of Cádiz houses three collections: archaeology, art, and puppets on three different floors. The art collection includes religious paintings by Zurbarán, Murillo and Rubens, some romantic and neo-classic work produced by the Academy of Fine arts and some contemporary pieces by regional artists. The archaeological section contains mostly prehistoric artefacts from Southern Andalusia as well as collection of coins and the puppets section includes the "Tía Norica" set used during the Carnival of Cádiz.
Access & Transport
Address: Plaza de Mina, Cádiz This is on the northern side the old city; bus stop 'Alameda Apodaca' (#2) is a 2mins' walk away. The large underground parking on Plaza San Antonio is 150m to the west.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with an exploration of the old town of Cadiz and the Parque Genovés.
Environmental & Social
Minor environment impact to run the museum (electricity). Positive from a social perspective by helping spread culture and the arts, and preserving the archaeological artefacts
Conclusion
The Museum of Cádiz is very good value and, effectively, three museums in one but it is somehow a little underwhelming for a city of this size and with such a historic role. As such, it makes for an excellent cultural activity once in town, but not one to plan your trip around.
