Description
The Cádiz Cathedral is a Roman Catholic Church built mostly during the 18th century (1722-1838) with money from the trade between Spain and the Americas which made the city very wealthy. Because it took several decades to be completed and the plans changed during the course of the project, the monument sports several architectural styles: baroque and neo-classical with a dash of rococo. Visitors can climb up the clocktower (Torre del Reloj) from where there are some of the best views over the old town. Trivia: the famous composer Manuel de Falla and poet & playwright Jose Maria Peman, both native of Cádiz, are buried in the crypt.
Access & Transport
The Cathedral is located on the aptly named Plaza de la Cathedral, 150m southeast of Plaza de la Flores, at the edge of the old town. Bus services 2 and 7 stop on Av. Campo del Sur, just south of the Cathedral.

This is a place of worship so visitors should dress conservatively. We suggest combining this activity with an exploration of the old town of Cadiz
