Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago - by Management
Description
The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Chicago houses a collection of thousands of objects of Post-World War II visual arts. Those are displayed in individually curated exhibitions combining items on loans and from the permanent collection. Genres span pop art, minimalism, post-modernism and some of the best-known artists represented include Andy Warhol, Cindy Sherman, and Jasper Johns. The new five-storey limestone and cast-aluminium structure was designed by architect Josef Paul Kleihues and is known for its glass-walled façade and much-photographed staircase.
Access & Transport
The museum is near the junction between E Chicago Ave and N Michigan Ave. There are bus stops alongside both those streets. "Chicago' metro station (red line) is only 500m away. The parking garage is located on Chicago Avenue just west of Fairbanks Court Accessibility info: https://mcachicago.org/visit/accessibility
Instructions & Recommendations
You can easily connect to the city centre by walking along the Lakeshore Trail until Grant Park or Riverwalk.
Environmental & Social
No environmental data about the buildings - consumes electricity and uses a new purposely built structure (that's a negative). Socially slightly positive as it helps spread culture and the arts
Conclusion
Not a priority for those with only a few days in Chicago, except for modern & contemporary art fans that is. If you have been around most other cultural activities and/or enjoy modern architecture then by all means this museum is worth discovering - just keep your expectations in check.
