Villanueva de los Infantes - by Jose Dominguez Nunez Herrador on Google
Description
Villanueva de los Infantes is a town in the southwest of the Ciudad Real Province, near the southern border of Castile-La Mancha. It became an independent town in 1421 and named after Don Enrique, Infante de Aragón. The current economy is based mainly on tourism and agricultural products such as olives and wines. The main sights are the Church of San Andrés Apóstol and the Plaza Mayor.
Access & Transport
The town is 100km east of Ciudad Real, driving through Manzanares on the A-43/N-430 or through Valdepeñas on the CM-45 / CM-412. It is also 120km southwest of Albacete and 160km northeast of Jaén.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with a wine tasting in Valdepeñas and a visit to the Manchego Cheese Museum of Manzanares, or to the Lagunas de Ruidera natural park.
Environmental & Social
Activities and sights in the town have a low carbon footprint. Helps preserve the region's architectural heritage and tourism brings some economic influx to the town
Conclusion
Villanueva de los Infantes has the usual attractions of the main tourist towns of La Mancha: a beautiful old main square (built in the 16th century) and several impressive churches. Those are far from unique though and, considering the out of the way location, unless the town is on your way or you are purposely looking for off-the-beaten-track sights, we would only recommend a detour for those planning a regional slow-travel itinerary.
