Segóbriga Archaeological Park

CM-310, Saelices, Castilla-La Mancha

Description

Segóbriga was a Roman city first mentioned in texts from the 1st century AD that referred to the city as far back as 146 BC. The name originates from "sego" meaning "victory" and "briga" meaning "city" or "fortress". The Archaeological Park is located 4km south of Saelices, in the north-western part of Cuenca's province in Castile-La Mancha. The main structures that can be visited today include the ruins of the Amphitheatre, the Baths, the Theatre, the Forum, the Acropolis, and some of the surrounding walls and entrance gate.

Access & Transport

By car from Madrid, it is a 110km drive on the R-3/A-3 until exit 104 around Saelices, the closest town, before heading south on the CM-310 for the last 4km. It is possible to go by regional train from Madrid's Atocha station to Tarancon but you'll need to find private transport for the last 30km of your journey.

Instructions & Recommendations

It is a good idea to wear proper walking shoes due to the uneven paths This activity can easily be combined with the Monastery of Ucles, only 13km away.
