Canoe on the Vezere river - by Koreval
Description
Canoe 24 is one of several operators arranging Canoe rides on the Vézère river, as far away as the Chateau de Losse (near Montignac and Lascaux) downstream to Les Eyzies. The route reviewed here is about 14km long and lasts 3h excluding stops. Highlights include La Roque Saint Christophe (where the route starts), La maison forte de Reignac (a fortified manor house), La Madeleine and several cliffs. Equipment including paddles, lifejacket and a waterproof box are provided.
Access & Transport
Customers should park at the base in Les Eyzies (14 bis, avenue du Cingle), 30mins before the scheduled departure time. After a short briefing you will be shuttled in the minivan to the start and make your way back down the river. Les Eyzies is 21km west of Sarlat, 45km from Périgueux and 55km from Bergerac.
Instructions & Recommendations
It is highly recommended to wear closed shoes that can get in the water so as to be able to stop and swim (flip flops risk breaking or being taken away by the current). Also bring 1l (one liter) of water per person. Customers should be able to swim at least 25m.
Environmental & Social
Eco-friendly activity. This helps support small independent operators and the local rural economy
Conclusion
If you can spare half a day, some time on the river provides a welcome change from the cultural activities, beautiful villages and fantastic food of the Dordogne region. Based on experience and reviews, Canoe 24 is an operator we would recommend and the 3h route should be long enough for most people.
