Description
The Al Seef development follows Dubai Creek shoreline over nearly 2km in the Bur Dubai district, just south of Al Fahidi. The Creek side is filled with restaurants and a marina whilst the inner streets and alleyways still retain some of the old city charm and seems to be popular with embassies. Dubai Creek originally divided the city in 2: Deira on the Northeast side and Bur Dubai in the Southwest. It formed the only real harbour in the city and, prior to the invention of cultured pearls in the 1930s, Dubai's pearling industry was centred around the creek. The natural ending is at the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, 14km from its origin - but is has now being extended and links back all the way to the Persian Gulf around Jumeirah Beach Park.
Access & Transport
Al Seef is reachable by road and public transport with the closest metro station being Burjuman (interchange for green and red lines) and Sharaf DG (green line), a short 5-10' walk away. There is also a ferry pier.
Instructions & Recommendations
We would suggest visiting the Al Seef neighbourhood, including a stroll along the Creek before or after visiting the Al Fahidi area.
Environmental & Social
We deem this activity environmentally and socially neutral
Conclusion
In our opinion, any visitor should take a stroll along the Creek at least once, either on the Deira or Bur Dubai side. If you are in Bur Dubai then Al Seef is a very good option for lunch or dinner and a quick walk through its alleyway.
Key positive
The Creek is truly the heart of the city's history and success (trading and pearl diving)
Pleasant creek-side stroll and dining opportunities in Al Seef
Easy to get to
Key negative
Expensive and touristy stores and restaurants
New "old buildings" feel a bit staged
Suitability
No restrictions
