Description

The Dubai Fountain is a choreographed water, music and light show in Downtown Dubai, at the foot of Burj Khalifa. The water jets are submerged in the Burj Khalifa Lake and can shoot water up to 150m high (500ft), they are complemented by 6,600 lights, over 50 coloured projectors and a range of classical, pop and Arabic music. Performances take place every 30mins from 18h00 to 23h30 and are free for spectators but special boat rides and boardwalk tickets can also be bought for AED68.25 and AED20 per person (price at the time of review)

Access & Transport

The fountain is located in the Burj Khalifa Lake, at the foot of the Burj Khalifa skyscraper, next to the Dubai Mall and a 10' walk to the Dubai Mall metro station (red line).

Instructions & Recommendations

We would recommend combining the Dubai Fountain show with other activities Downtown such as the Dubai Mall visit, the Aquarium or the Opera.

Meta review

The show is extremely popular with tourists and regularly features on the list of top things to see when in Dubai. People do enjoy the dramatic light and water choreography in an incredible setting. The main complaints are that the show really is too short and crowded so that it can be difficult to get a good view.

Environmental & Social

Water evaporation is compensated using treated wastewater from the Downtown complex. The show is however very energy intensive, and the construction works entailed a significant use of resources and foreign labour.

Conclusion

The Dubai Fountain show is very impressive and close to other attractions that it really does make sense to include it in your itinerary, unless you are pointedly avoiding the area. Be prepared not to be the only spectator.

Key positive

Spectacular light and water show in a unique setting

Centrally located and no admission fees

Key negative

Very short duration

Whether or not you like the music is a bit of a lottery

Not the greenest attraction (very energy intensive)

Suitability

Visitors in wheelchair can access but may need to find a specific vantage point to get a good view - or maybe pay for the boardwalk or boat ride options.
