Description
*** TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR RENOVATION *** Dubai Museum is housed in the Al Fahidi Fort, the oldest existing building in Dubai. The focus is on the 19th century local culture and the galleries include local and African artefacts.
Access & Transport
The museum is located in the Al Fahidi neighbourhood of Bur Dubai. It is easy to get to by public transport: the Sharaf DG metro station (green line) is a 7-8' walk away. Most parts of the museum are accessible to persons with mobility issues (although manual wheelchair users may require assistance with the spiral stairway to the underground galleries and back up)
Instructions & Recommendations
We recommend coupling the visit with some time walking around the Al Fahidi neighbourhood or towards the Al Shindagha neighbourhood.
Environmental & Social
Use of a/c inside but small carbon footprint on a per visitor basis. Helps preserves' the emirate's cultural heritage.
Conclusion
There is no star of the show there and opinions will be split, but the Dubai Museum is located in the old part of town and entrance is cheap so it represents a small time and monetary investment, and you are sure to learn a few things.
Key positive
The Fort makes for some good photo ops
Located in the old part of town so can be easily complemented by other activities
Entrance fee is inexpensive
Key negative
May not be very interesting for those already well versed into the local culture
Quite a few tours stop there, so it can sometimes feel crowded in some narrow sections
Suitability
Suitable for all ages although children may not be that interested. Persons with mobility issues will be able to access most parts of the Fort and museum
