Etihad Museum - by Jack Przemieniecki on Google
Description
The Etihad Museum is housed in the Union House in Dubai, the very location where the formation of the UAE was formally declared in 1971. Fittingly, the purpose of the museum is to collect, preserve and display the country's heritage so visitors can expect to find photographs, films and artefacts that date back to the years preceding the country's formation. Eithad is the Arabic word for "union".
Access & Transport
Very straightforward to access by road (Intersection of Al Diyafah st and Jumeirah Beach rd, where the Union House flag is located). In terms of public transport, there is a bus stop on Jumeirah Beach rd (No 8, 9, C10).
Instructions & Recommendations
It makes sense to combine this with activities in the vicinity such as the tour of the Jumeirah Mosque (first thing in the morning) and some beach time at La Mer or another beach along Jumeirah Beach Park.
Environmental & Social
Significant use of air-conditioning. Some cultural & educational aspects
Conclusion
The Etihad Museum is really worth a detour for several reasons: its design, the time in the UAE's history it symbolizes, and its content. The visit need not be long but you'll come out knowing more about the Dubai Emirate and the UAE; time well spent in our opinion.
Key positive
Very interesting design
Instructive about the UAE
Key negative
Quite expensive given the narrow scope and content on display
After a while one can feel a sense of personality cult around the founding fathers
Suitability
Suitable for all ages even though non-UAE children may not find the content of interest. Accessible for visitors with reduced mobility.
