Kite surfing Dubai (Kite N surf, intro)

Nessnass St, Dubai, Dubai

Description

Kitesurfing (aka kiteboarding) is an extreme sport that combines surfing, windsurfing and paragliding techniques: you use the wind power through a large kite to be pulled on the water and can take off by several meters, in particular using waves. This review is for a 3h intro lesson in a small group - we selected Kite'n'Surf in this instance but there are several other operators offering private and group lessons from 1h up to 8-10h full intro packages. In this course, novices will get acquainted with theoretical aspects, safety guidelines, kite launching and landing as well as body dragging inside the water (based on student's progress).

Access & Transport

Kite N' Surf kiteboard lessons take place at Nessnass beach, in the Jumeirah neighbourhood, about 4km up the coastline from Umm Suqueim beach. The easiest way to go is by car / taxi, possibly taking the metro until Al Safa which is about 5km away. Bus services 8, 81 and 88 also run through Jumeirah Beach rd, only 200m away.

Instructions & Recommendations

Please carefully read the terms and conditions, in particular if you are not a confident swimmer or is you are less than 18 yrs. old (min. age is 6). Otherwise do not forget your swim attire and usual sun-related protective gear.

Meta review

As an operator, Kite N' Surf has very positive reviews about both their instructors and the equipment they use - be it paddleboards or kite boarding.

Environmental & Social

Wind powered so no emissions. Help sustain small independent operators / instructors.

Conclusion

Kite surfing is an exciting and impressive sport, when mastered. Most people may dismiss it as too difficult when looking at proficient individuals, forgetting that those very same persons were once beginners as well. So, if you are keen on water sports, or generally love trying something new, you should consider it. If you are in Dubai long enough, there are more comprehensive intro packages available.

Key positive

Trying out and learning something new

To be out in the elements: sun, beach, water, wind

Key negative

Quite expensive

Suitability

There are age restrictions, and we'd recommend this to people between 12 and 60 with a minimum degree of fitness. Not suitable for somebody with reduced mobility.
