La Mer Dubai

Jumeirah Beach Road, Dubai, Dubai

Description

*** La Mer is currently being redeveloped, and will be renamed J1 Beach *** La Mer is a beach-side development in Dubai comprising restaurants, shops, activities (Laguna Water Park, a trampoline park and a cinema), water sports and a well-maintained beach with comprehensive infrastructure including daybeds and cabanas available for rent. There is also an hotel (Rove La Mer) attached to it.

Access & Transport

Located in Jumeirah 1 neighbourhood, close to the Jumeirah Mosque and the Etihad Museum, La Mer is easily accessible by car. Bus is also a possible option, but metro is too far out. Parking is AED20/h but can be redeemed for free subject to min. spend

Instructions & Recommendations

Do not forget to take all the usual beach equipment: sun block, towels, cap/hat, sunglasses, and plenty of water. There are many options to hide a little bit from the sun when it gets too hot/strong in one of the various restaurants, or cabanas. As such, we think this place deserves about half a day and should be done in tandem with a visit to the Etihad Museum or potentially after the morning Jumeirah Mosque tour (noting that the dressing requirement there is different from what you would likely wear at the beach).

Meta review

La Mer found its way near the very top of the things to do in Dubai. It seems extremely popular with families. Some recurring comments about the F&B and daybed / cabana rental prices being too high

Environmental & Social

The natural environment has been impacted by the commercial development and there is some minor carbon footprint (water usage and electricity). Socially neutral

Conclusion

La Mer is a really good option for families who want to spend a fair amount of time by the beach as it gives them the opportunity to do other activities as well as have lunch / snacks / dinner there. However, for those who prefer natural and undeveloped settings, there are much better options elsewhere in Dubai.

Key positive

Plenty of activities options besides sand and water

No entrance fee to the beach itself

Good range of cafes and restaurants

Key negative

Having options is good, but price is quite high in general

Much bigger environmental footprint than an undeveloped beach setting

Suitability

Suitable for all age groups, very friendly for families. Visitors with mobility issues should also be able to access most areas
